Hello

Welcome to the Annual Impact Report of Julian Church and Associates for 2025. We have been a Certified B Corporation for more than 36 months and have this year have been re-certified for another 3 years. This is our third full calendar year moment to reflect, measure and report on our progress.

We believe that our impact and legacy should be priority sustainable in terms of the effect on people and communities through the economy and financial reach, whilst also considering in terms of materiality use.

This report is intended to demonstrate our dedication to meeting verified social and environmental performance standards, public transparency and legal accountability.

This report provides a snapshot of our achievements in Impact Areas defined by B Corporation standards: Community, Environment, Workers, Governance and Customers. The following sections highlight our accomplishments and define our ambitions for the coming year.

We need an inclusive, equitable and regenerative economic system for all people and the planet.

Let’s use business as a force for good.

Our Journey

We chose to pursue B Corporation certification after being inspired by others already on that journey and as a means to reflect our core values. The process was a conscious effort to document but also to make minor alterations, where required, to align our business operations with commitments to high standards of social and environmental performance; our ongoing business operations remain focused on this objective.

We were first certified B Corp in August 2022. This year we have been re-certified as B Corp and have again documented our evaluation criteria of assessing the criteria questions on our working practices and policies, strengthening our commitment to local community and customer relations.

What are we doing today for a better tomorrow? We are working to make a positive impact for people, the environment and the culture of the business.

We are proud to be part of a growing community of B Corporations working within the built environment.

Our Impact

Our office is based by the sea in Worthing, West Sussex providing a base to operate and provide our services throughout the United Kingdom but with an eye to working also in Europe. We measure, manage and implement various hospitality projects, but increasingly now a significant percentage more of community, educational, health and retail projects for clients from across the world looking to integrate into the UK markets.

Often implementing designs within existing units or developments, we seek to make conscious decisions regarding retrofit and adaptive reuse of existing buildings, whilst also helping create centres of new employment opportunities.

In 2026 it shall remain our commitment that all business is conducted as if people and place matters and to work in areas where we can add value and professionalism.
To look beyond profit to seek to enhance our local and wider communities experience.

Our patronage of good causes and charities is only part of our commitment to meeting specific social and environmental standards as further demonstrated through use of electric company cars, having a local staff hiring policy and high percentage of local suppliers in our supply chain. We look forward to the new year further extending our relationships with our communities and investing in our staff.

Reflecting on the past year, our dedicated focus on delivering client projects, has focused within the educational, community, hospitality and residential sectors . We have remained steadfast in our commitment to giving back to the communities in which we operate. Our efforts extend beyond professional endeavours, embodying corporate responsibility as we actively engage in initiatives that make a positive impact.

As we embark on the upcoming year, we carry forward the lessons learned and successes achieved, fortified by the partnerships formed and maintained, the projects completed and the positive impact created in both our professional and societal spheres.

Our certification is more than a mark: it’s a way of seeing the world- and leading for good

Environment

In 2024, our business practices emitted or caused approximately 50.8 tCO2e, a reduction on 2023 levels, through our direct service provisions, our supply chain, our travel choices and professional subscriptions. we have calculated through Neutral Carbon Zone, a certified carbon tracking company, our carbon footprint to be 22.86 tco2e.

Purchased Goods and Services in Scope 3 accounted for the largest proportion of emissions at 12.41 tCO2e (54.23%), followed by Business Travel 5.31 tCO2e (23.21%), Commuting and Homeworking 3.39 tCO2e (14.80%), and Energy and Fuel related Activities (Well-to-Tank and Transmission & Distribution 0.96 tCO2e (4.20%).

We are pleased as this is a reduction on our previous year but also, we are reassured that through a certified carbon tracking company we have a reliable benchmark to measure our progress going forward in 2026.

Our carbon footprint is measured to be 22.86 tco2e

We have made a declaration to plant a minimum of 5 trees per completed project where we have provided our services. Our goal since 2022 was to plant a minimum of 600 trees before the end of 2025. We suspended tree planting in 2024 awaiting new local areas of rewilding after our local project had closed for new trees. We have since started a new partnership with charity ‘Forest without Frontiers’ who have been planting trees on our behalf locally as well as overseas in Romania. We made an initial contribution of around 220 trees to catch up on our completed projects since 2024 and now make regular monthly contributions of 5 trees a month to reflect our completed project count.

In 2025, through our tree planting with Forest Without Frontiers the amount of carbon we sequestered totalled 37.6  tCO2. Our outstanding 2023 and 2024 allocations totalled 190 trees and we completed our tree planting to our minimum target in 2025. We have planted more than the outstanding needed to reach 600 trees so our next target will be a further 100 trees by the end of 2026.

In 2026 we shall also seek to extend mitigation measures on carbon emissions considering our work practices and will continue to offset what carbon we do cause. In 2026 we will again offset our 2025 emission level to a balance of net zero through nature based carbon avoidance.

Workers

Our staff all live locally or within a 30 minute commute to the office. We have encouraged flexible working arrangements to offer a hybrid office/ working from home solution to daily work patterns.

We have a balanced office with slightly greater female representation.

We have again provided financial support for continuing education of our team and look forward in 2026 to seeing further development and acknowledgment of the skills and services we provide. This has included in 2025 the appointment of our first apprentice, working toward qualification part time at the University of Portsmouth whilst engaged in day to day experience and practice in daily activities and works.

In 2026 our goal is to seek to cultivate and develop further worker empowerment in respect to training for personal and professional development.

Goverance

Our team participates in Performance Reviews annually and we encourage employee training that includes social or environmental issues in the ongoing development of the staff member as aligned to their needs or wishes but also the central mission of the company to develop and enhance our business for the general good.

We seek ongoing improvement and refinement of our systems, measured in our ISO 9001 and BCorp requalification in 2025 but also in respect to our greater community in terms of environmental, social and economic impacts.

In 2026 our goal is to seek to be even more candid and sharing of the financial position of the company and further consider staff share ownership or governance.

Community

We have a commitment and are tied to this commitment through B Corp Registration, to purchase core products (at least 50% of our non-labour expenses) from independent suppliers local to where the product will be used or where our company operates. We have again continued to map our suppliers from previous years which showed that we had over 70% of non-labour related purchases purchased locally (within 50 miles of the office).

We have pledged to commit a minimum 1% of turnover or 5% of profit through direct payment and/or pro bono billable hours to local community projects and initiatives. Over the past year this has been focused on helping regular monthly monetary donation to foodbanks, sponsorship of Ropetackle Arts Centre and sponsorship of client awards in the Care and Special Educational Needs sector.

We have continued our sponsorship with the Ropetackle Arts Centre.

Ropetackle Arts Centre

JCA have this year continued as a sponsor to Ropetackle Arts Centre. Since opening in 2007, Ropetackle has established itself as one of the most vibrant and distinctive arts venues in the local region, combining a programme of quality arts and entertainment with a rich and diverse mix of community activities. With a fully equipped auditorium, spacious foyer, and multipurpose mezzanine room, Ropetackle hosts a wide range of activities, meetings, classes, and workshops alongside its main artistic programme.

Ropetackle also run a range of community outreach projects and activities, which our sponsorship will help to contribute towards. Attracting audiences of 40,000 per year, supported by 360+ Friends and Patrons, and 80+ volunteers, Ropetackle plays a unique and established role at the heart of the community.

Forest Without Frontiers

Forests Without Frontiers is a UK-registered non-profit organisation dedicated to restoring and protecting nature across Europe and the UK for future generations.
Founded in 2019, the organisation works with local partners and communities to regenerate degraded landscapes through tree planting and ecosystem care, celebrate cultural heritage and engage people of all ages in nature through creative projects and events. FWF’s work spans reforestation activities in places like Romania’s Carpathian Mountains and community-focused projects in the UK, often incorporating traditional music, storytelling and arts to spark connection and action for forests and wildlife.

By uniting conservation, culture and creativity, Forests Without Frontiers aims to bring nature back to life — and bring people back to nature.
We have formed a partnership with Forest Without Frontiers this year and bought 220 trees in bulk to catch up on our projects with tree planting locally in Sussex to help restore and protect local ecosystems as well as planting also overseas in Romania.

Customers

In the last 12 months, we have implemented 31,502m2 of completed buildings across 24 different projects in 5 sectors; all within the United Kingdom.

As part of these implementations, these projects have created approximately 140 full time jobs in the hospitality and education industry.

We have acted on behalf of Horizon Education Group on the implementation of Great Howarth School in Rochdale and are acting as a retained consultant to them for works throughout the country. We are proud to be retained on a monthly set payment basis and look forward to working on more projects together developing our collaboration.

We have been working more with Local Authorities since 2023; moving into 2025 we are again seeking to expand on this local customer base to develop further projects within and for our local community.
