At JCA, we believe the impact of our work extends beyond the buildings we deliver. Whilst hospitality remains a core part of our business, we are increasingly proud to support projects in education, healthcare and community services. In the past year, we have partnered with organisations that are creating meaningful social value, helping to improve access to education, enhance healthcare environments and strengthen local communities.
Grove Road School in Sutton, Horizon Group
Since 2024, we have worked with several organisations in the education sector, including Horizon, a provider of specialist education and children’s homes for young people with special educational needs.
One notable project was a new school in Sutton, where JCA was brought in midway through the programme after the client felt a fresh approach was needed. We reviewed the project, re-evaluated elements of the existing work and established a clear path forward. Taking responsibility for Building Regulations compliance and contract administration, we successfully guided the project through to completion.
The outcome was a fully licensed school that opened following a positive Ofsted inspection. More importantly, it created local educational provision for children who would otherwise have travelled to neighbouring boroughs such as Croydon, while also expanding specialist support services within Sutton itself.
The success of the project has led Horizon to ask us to assemble a team to review further schools and to discuss a retained advisory role— which is a great compliment to us, but it’s also a great compliment to the client in the foresight and the need that they’ve got for their requirements.
St Joseph’s Hospice, St Michael’s Ward
Beyond education, we have also delivered community-focused healthcare projects, including the £1.5 million refurbishment of St Michael’s Ward at St Joseph’s Hospice. The project transformed 16 inpatient units, incorporating modern medical infrastructure such as medical gases and bed heads to a high hygiene standard while creating a warm, homely environment designed to maximise patient comfort. This was the second ward refurbishment we have completed for the St Joseph’s Hospice.
The ward was officially opened by the Cardinal of London, an event we were proud to attend and the feedback from the hospice has been overwhelmingly positive.
Conclusion
Looking ahead, while hospitality remains a core sector for us, we are keen to expand our work across education, healthcare, social housing and hospice environments. These projects allow us to apply our professional expertise in ways that directly benefit local communities. It reflects our B Corp commitment to using business as a force for good and reinforces our ambition to support organisations that deliver meaningful social impact.
